Websters dictionary defines sanctuary as "any place of refuge" and that is what we give to these special horses. The sanctuary horses will remain with us forever and are NOT available for adoption. Few spots are open for sanctuary horses (due to upkeep costs) and those that are chosen to remain as sanctuary horses are carefully selected and "usually" have a medical or physical condition that prevents adoption into another home.
Many of the horses that come to us are owner surrendered. Some of the owners want nothing more than to have their cherished companions live out their lives surrounded by people who love them. Each of our sanctuary horses will stay with us until their time on this earth is over. Each has their own story...some sad..some not. Sit down with us and meet our horses and see how they have come to be here with us.

Rainbow is a beautiful 29 year old Paint mare who was donated by her owners to LFSAR as a lifetime horse. This beautiful girl will be used for education and become the "spokeshorse" for the rescue. Thank you to the Twigg family for loving her enough to let her go. ~Sponsor: Thelma~
Prince is a beautiful 20 something Morgan gelding who was donated by his owners to LFSAR as a lifetime horse. Prince has a stifle issue that prevents him from being comfortably ridden anymore and they wanted a place where he could retire. Prince actually "knows" Bow and used to go riding with her so I'm sure he was happy to find her here :o) Thank you to the Twigg family for loving him enough to let him go... ~Sponsor Elissa~

Batman Robin aka Batman is a 1989 APHA gelding who spent his entire life working as a team roping horse (even going to the National Finals Rodeo many times) until he developed a stifle injury that put him on the sidelines forever. His owners chose to donate him to LFSAR as a lifetime horse to live out his life just being a horse. We commend his owners for loving him enough to let him go.

Black Beauty (affectionally known as Grandma) is a old TWH mare who was donated along with Annie (who has been adopted into her forever home). The decision to keep her as a sanctuary horse arose from a medical issue after her arrival at the rescue. She may be the oldest horse in the group but she still bosses the others around.

At one time we did indeed stand a stallion and had a solid APHA breeding program which helped to offset the costs of running the rescue. However, we have since gelded our stallion and sold off most of our broodmare band as well as some of our own horses to make room for the rescue horses and to make them top priority as they should be.
There are many horses out there that should be going into private homes instead of onto the slaughter truck to become dinner for someone in another country. Each of the horses adopted from LFSAR goes out with a strict NO breeding contract on them for that very reason! We cannot change the past but we can help to change the future.
